The political action of Local #5 is based solely on protecting and strengthening the labor and economic standards of our members. We regularly meet with and evaluate politicians, candidates and policies based on their track record and commitment to issues including, but not limited to:
- The right to collectively bargain
- Worker protections such as OSHA and other safety-related protections, unemployment compensation, NRLB protections
- Elevating industry standards and protecting work through the use of registered apprenticeships, prevailing wage laws, streamlining permitting, licensing, responsible contractor legislation, project labor agreements
- Incentivizing development and growth in the region through investments and business recruitment
We do this through political engagement, education, volunteerism, and legislative action.
